Vidor authorities say a man is blessed to be alive after crashing his pickup into a church around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police investigators say he was eastbound on Interstate 10, and lost control. They say he exited Main Street in Vidor at a high rate of speed, jumped the curb and went into the side of River of Life Church, which is located on the feeder road.
Authorities say the man told them, he started to feel ill, and apparently passed out.
Emergency crews had to cut him out of the truck, where he was trapped.
He was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in stable condition.
Church Pastor Jarod Parnell says the pickup crashed through a room that was being used as storage.
Pastor Parnell told 12News, "You know buildings and things can be replaced. Our prayers go out to the gentleman that was driving the truck. Don't know his status, but hopefully he is going to be okay. Insurance and time will take care of the church. I'm not worried about that."
Vidor Police Sergeant Mike Sanchez said, "My expectation would be a fatality...but you know to see him still alive you know he is lucky, he is very fortunate that he is still alive."
