Police say shooting victim may be prowler that was shot by homeowner

Port Arthur police are investigating a Monday-morning shooting.

Around 12:30 a.m., officers were called to the 700 block of 9th Avenue. When they arrived they found a person with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. A police spokesperson said it appeared the victim had been shot with a small caliber gun.

Police say about two hours before they were called to 9th Avenue, they had received a call in the 3500 block of 10th Street from a man who said there was a prowler on the porch of his home. The man told police he shot the man with a pellet gun. The homeowner showed officers the pellet gun he used in the confrontation.

A news release issued by the Port Arthur Police Department says officers believe the shooting victim on 9th Avenue is the prowler who was shot on 10th Street.

The man with the gunshot wound is being treated at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

The incident remains under investigation.
