Prayer vigil held for healing of school district, community

Posted: Updated:

A prayer vigil was held Sunday.  It's what some feel may be a  remedy for the ills plaguing the Beaumont Independent School District school board. The organizer says the purpose is to support the healing of the school district and the community.

McCabe Roberts Avenue United Methodist church member Paula Herrington came up with the idea.

Herrington says this is her response following the March 21 board meeting when trustees voted to appeal the 9th Court of Appeals decision to fill all seats on the board during May elections. The meeting became very heated.

"I know the power of prayer and if anything can help the people of BISD come together and treat people like human beings it's prayer," Herrington said.

Herrington says Superintendent Dr. Timothy Chargois gave her permission to have the vigil at the administration building.

No school resources were used for the event.
