PAISD superintendent announces he'll leave at end of contract in 2014

Posted: Updated:
PORT ARTHUR -

Port Arthur Independent School District Superintendent Johnny Brown has announced he will leave his post when his contract expires on September 30, 2014.

Board Vice President Willie Mae Elmore told 12News that Brown made his intentions known during Thursday night's board meeting.

Elmore says this will give the board plenty of time to start searching for a replacement.

Brown has been with PAISD since August 2006.  He's a native of Austin, where his elderly mom still lives.

Elmore says the board has yet to discuss when a search for a new superintendent will begin since Brown just made his announcement Thursday.
