Trucker cleared of charges in fatal Thanksgiving accident

A truck driver has been 'no billed' by a Jefferson County Grand Jury, meaning he will not face trial in connection with a fatal Thanksgiving Day accident on Interstate 10.

The Grand Jury heard evidence against Richard Fernando Kerr and decided to take no further legal action against him.  Kerr is the truck driver involved in an I-10 pileup which happened on Thanksgiving Day 2011 in which at least two people died and over 100 injured.  His large truck slammed into the back of a car killing Vincent Leggio, Sr., and Debra Leggio.

Although Kerr is cleared of criminal charges, he remains a defendant in a civil lawsuit filed by the victim's children.  The lawsuit also names the owner of the 18-wheeler and C. R. England INC.

According to 12News file stories, fog was a factor in the accident.
