Man arrested after alleged hammer attack

Beaumont police officers arrested a man in connection with an alleged 'hammer' attack that took place on Tulane Street in north Beaumont Monday morning.

Officers were called to a home on Tulane around 8:30 a.m. on an assault call.  Police were told a man came to his ex-girlfriend's house and the two got into an argument with her.  Another man tried to assist the woman and was attacked by the man with what witnesses said was a hammer or some type of blunt object.

Beaumont Police Department Spokesperson Rob Flores told 12News officers with a K-9 began searching the area for the attacker.   They found the suspect a short time later and made an arrest.

The man, identified by police as Jonathan Bilturner, 22, of Beaumont, was charged with aggravated assault and evading arrest.

The incident remains under investigation.
