Retired Jefferson County Criminal District Court judge passes away


12 News is sad to report the death of retired Jefferson County Criminal District Judge Charles Carver.

According to friend and colleague, Judge Larry Thorne, Judge Carver passed away around 6 a.m. Saturday while surrounded by family.

Judge Carver suffered from a long battle against cancer. Family members are making funeral arrangements. Broussard's Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

Judge Carver served on the bench in the Criminal District Court from 1994 until 2006 when he retired.  Before becoming a judge, he was a defense attorney and once worked as a partner at Provost Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont.

Judge Larry Thorne says, "Charlie was dedicated to the practice of law. He was always a good friend and he will be missed."

Judge Charles Carver was 69.
