One arrested following Deweyville fire

Posted:

Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that fully engulfed a home in Deweyville.

Firefighters were called to the home on County Road 3126 in Deweyville around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The house is considered a total loss.  No injuries were reported.

Authorities say that one man was taken into custody and charged with public intoxication immediately after the fire.  A news release from the Newton County Sheriff's Office issued Friday afternoon says other charges are pending, but did not specify the nature of the possible additional charges.

A Sheriff's Office spokesperson has identified the man arrested as William Joseph Peterson IV.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
