Two people were taken to the hospital and one man taken to jail Thursday after a car and truck collided in the 2600 block of US Highway 96 south.
The accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. in front of the Walmart in Silsbee.
According to a news release from the Silsbee Police Department, both vehicles were heading south along the highway when a 1997 Mitsubishi struck the rear of a 2011 Ford. The impact caused both drivers to lose control.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 28-year-old male from Denison, fled the scene on foot. He was captured and held by witnesses until officers arrived. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to stop and render aid.
The driver of the Ford, identified as Fred Smith Jr, 76, and his passenger, Clifton Doyle, 59, both of Buna, were taken by ambulance to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont with what officers describe as non life-threatening injuries.
The name of the person arrested is withheld by police pending arraignment.
