Appeals court rules against BISD

Posted: Updated:

The Beaumont Independent School District board of trustees can be expected to change dramatically based on a 15-page ruling by the Ninth Court of Appeals.

The court ruled that, "Under the circumstances of this case the governing statute requires all trustee positions be filled in the election and that respondent has a mandatory duty imposed by law to accept the applications for the positions that were timely presented."

Beaumont Attorneys Mike Getz and Michael Truncale say the win at the Ninth Court of Appeals means Trustees Terry Williams, Zenobia Bush and Woodrow Reece will be off the board. They did not file to run in their positions.

They says it means Linda Gilmore, Marcelino Rodriguez and Donna Forgas will win those seats unopposed. Trustees Gwen Ambres, Mike Neil, and Tom Nield filed for re- election and are un opposed to remain on the board.

Incumbent Janice Brassard and Joey Hilliard will compete for position 7.
