(KCEN) -- Two fallen Central Texas heroes are recognized at the VFW in Georgetown this afternoon.
John Krowl of Sc hertz was awarded the Prisoner of War Medal.
At 22-years-old he was part of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Krowl was a POW for three years during World War II and chose to continue his service after returning home.
Master Sergeant Ben Snowden was given the Silver Star Award.
Snowden was killed in action while trying to pull a solder onto a helicopter.
He was the first soldier from Georgetown to die in Vietnam.
Snowden's daughter Sharla Green said, "I know now that this is something they do. It's part of their code of honor. He wouldn't of thought about their code of honor. He didn't want to abandon his brother. I'm just really proud."
Krowl died in 1983 after retiring from the U.S. Airforce.
Snowden served in the Army 12-years before he was killed in action.
