Beaumont man says he shot teen intruder

Posted:
BEAUMONT -

Beaumont police say a man told them he shot a teenage intruder he found in his home just after 5 a.m. Saturday.

A news release issued by the Beaumont Police Department says 911 dispatchers received a burglary call from a house in the 6900 block of Vermejo Circle. While officers were en route to that location, dispatchers received a call from the homeowner who said he had just shot a man who he found in his house.

Officers arrived and found a 16-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. They called for EMS.

Paramedics treated the juvenile at the scene then took him to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth where he underwent surgery.

A police spokesperson Saturday morning said the investigation is in its early stages and detectives were still trying to determine the facts surrounding this incident.

On Monday afternoon a police spokesperson said it appears the homeowner's daughter allowed the teen inside the house and did not tell her parents.

The incident remains under investigation.
