
A traffic alert for drivers traveling on the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge; Beginning Sunday night, construction crews will begin the week-long process of shifting all eastbound traffic to the westbound lanes of the bridge.
At 9 p.m. Sunday, one westbound lane will be closed to move a concrete barrier. That move is expected to be complete by early Monday.
On Wednesday night, alternating westbound lanes will be closed to continue setting the barrier.
A Thursday-night eastbound lane closure will take place for more barrier work.
Next Friday night and into the weekend, the barrier work will be completed and the contractor will re-stripe the westbound bridge to handle eastbound traffic.
The Texas Department of Transportation says the schedule is weather dependant.
The so-called "big shift" is expected to be complete by Sunday March 24.
