12News has learned that a long-standing election dispute has ended.
Jefferson County Tax Assessor Collector Shane Howard Friday learned through his attorney that his opponent from the November election has
withdrawn his petition in a lawsuit challenging Howards victory on election night.
Democrat Thomas Sigee had argued that provisional ballots were wrongfully rejected causing Howard to win the election by 16 votes.
"Personally I am elated. I've been in election mode for 16 to 18 months now and that takes a toll on you. The injustice of it really eats at you as well," said Howard in an exclusive conversation with 12News.
Thomas Sigee said he wanted to congratulate Shane Howard and wish him the best.
