What could be in the name of Pope Francis I

BEAUMONT -

Southeast Texans are welcoming the new pope their own way.

Many did so in a Thanksgiving Mass at Saint Anthony Cathedral Basilica in Beaumont Wednesday. The mass was announced moments after the new pope was announced. And with a new pope could come changes within the catholic church.

Bishop Curtis J Guillory says it could all be in the Pope's name, Francis.

Saint Francis of Assissi was a humble wealthy man who gave up his riches to live among and serve the poor.

"I think he's calling more Catholics to be more passionate towards the poor, to have a more compassionate heart for the poor," Bishop Guillory said.

Bishop Guillory also says that the selection of a Latin American pope shows the Church's recognition that about 40% of the world's Catholics are Latinos.

Guillory has had a trip to Rome planned for some time. Coincidentally, he will lead a pilgrimage teaching the footsteps of Saint Francis.
