Two Beaumont families escape burning duplex

BEAUMONT -

A Beaumont Fire-Rescue spokesperson tells 12News two Beaumont families escaped a burning duplex without injury Tuesday night.

The fire was reported around 10:30 p.m. at a duplex located at 610 Palm Street in the South Park neighborhood.

Smoke and flames were visible when firefighters arrived at the house.

A news release from Beaumont Fire-Rescue says one side of the duplex was heavily damaged by the fire and the other side had only smoke and water damage.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by an electrical short.

The American Red Cross was called to assist both families.

Firefighters finished on the scene just after midnight.
