Business is booming at Orange bait and tackle store

ORANGE -

Business is booming at an Orange tackle shop where the pros are stocking up on bait before Thursday's Elite Bassmaster fishing tournament.

Simon Outfitters is a growing business that sits just a few miles from where fisherman dock their boats. Being so close to the water, Anglers in town for the tournament have been checking in to check out what the store has to offer.

"The tournament is definitely a bonus for us. It's brought a lot of business," says owner Jonathan Simon.

Simon says he has prepared for this week for four months. Over the weekend, the anglers visited the shop by purchasing their licenses and bait.

Customer, Terry Mullen, has fished for 35 years and says he comes to Simon Outfitters for his bait. He says the tournament is the talk of the town.

"A lot of people were unaware of the magnitude of the upcoming event. I think people are starting to get an indication of how big this is," says Mullen.

It will be a big boost for the economy. But, it's not all about profit. While visiting the shop, the anglers signed a shirt which will go to charity.

It's a big event for a small town where spectators are already dropping in before the tournament begins.

"We've had customers from all over and it's only going to get bigger as we get closer to Thursday," says Simon.

The company will have a booth set up with the Chamber of Commerce at the boat dock.

The Orange Chamber of Commerce says the total economic impact of the tournament will be around $1.3 million.
