Autopsy in child death investigation indicates accidental death

Posted:

Detectives with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office have received autopsy results that indicate a child's death was accidental.

A sheriff's office spokesperson told 12News that 911 dispatchers received a call around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday about a 4-year-old child that was not breathing in the 11300 block of Wiggins Road in Fannett.

Members of the Labelle-Fannett Volunteer Fire Department, Hamshire Volunteer Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance Service were immediately dispatched.

Efforts to revive the child were unsuccessful. The child was pronounced deceased by Jefferson County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Judge Ray Chesson.

Wednesday afternoon a sheriff's office spokesperson said the autopsy has determined that the cause of death of 4-year-old, Kayden Haynes, was asphyxiation, and the death is being ruled as an accidental death.
