A man is charged with deadly conduct after police say he fired shots at officers Sunday night.

A news release issued by the Port Arthur Police Department says officers received a call just after 11 p.m. Sunday concerning a suspicious person at a building located at 1647 7th St.  This is a business that has been closed for some time.

Officers were checking the rear of the building when shots were fired at them through the door.  Officers say they were nearly struck, but managed to find cover.  Additional officers were called to the scene.

The SWAT team was called as officers tried to communicated with the person inside the building. The man inside the building came out before the SWAT team arrived.

The officers were able to determine that the man had been sleeping inside the vacant building.  He arrested and charged with deadly conduct.

Neither the officers nor the man who fired the shots were injured.
