Wrong-way driver cause of head-on collision in Port Arthur

A Department of Public Safety spokesperson told 12News a head-on collision in the 8500 block of Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur was caused by an elderly driver going the wrong way.

Officials say the accident happened just after 11 a.m. in the westbound lanes.  An elderly Port Neches woman in a silver Chryslter 300 drove the wrong way on the entrance ramp.  Her vehicle struck a green white Ford pickup head-on.

The driver of the Ford, a 42-year-old Buna man, had to be cut out of the pickup.  He was taken to Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth in Beaumont.  Officials say he in listed serious condition.

The driver of the Chrysler was taken to Christus Hospital Saint Mary in stable condition
