TXDOT: No need for traffic woes

Posted: Updated:
BEAUMONT -

Some big changes will soon be coming to Interstate 10 at the Neches River Bridge.

The Texas Department of Transportation's effort to build a new segmental bridge will start Friday at 9 p.m.

The work is called the "big shift" and will eventually shift all east and westbound traffic to the westbound bridge.

TxDOT says it will begin with re-striping, reducing travel to one lane westbound at night until Saturday evening.

Monday workers will begin a month long project, installing a concrete barrier. And eventually shifting all eastbound traffic to the westbound lanes

The "big shift" to the westbound bridge is expected to take place in late March.  That's when all travelers will be forced to use the westbound bridge on two lanes in each direction. Then a new eastbound bridge can be built.

The $59 million project is expected to be finished by 2015.
