Library to start new Lego programs for children

Posted: Updated:

The R-C Miller Public Library in Beaumont is preparing three new programs to kids of all ages. The children's librarian Amelia Brister says the programs she's starting are aimed at getting kids together to explore their creativity and diversity all through the use of Lego's and you can help. It's called let go of your Lego's for library programs.

Beaumont children will have the opportunity to build new skills and understanding at the R. C. Miller Public Library.

Brister says it's because, "Children love Lego's."

The first program, story time with Lego's will begin on March 8, 2013. The Lego Play Date will give children of all ages the opportunity for free play to build whatever they like.

Brister says, "I have volunteers who have offered to give their time and their services to have a structured build the next month."

And there is even something for the "tweens" and teens in their after school programs.

Brister says, "One Tuesday a month we want to set aside for them to use the Lego's to play, have some build time, have some loud noisy creative time, offering them an alternative to just sitting and waiting."

But the library needs your help in collecting the Lego's in the Let Go of Your Lego's For Library Programs.

The library is taking used Lego's and new ones; from the large Lego's for the small kids and the more difficult kits for the older ones.

Brister says, "My goal for this program is bringing children of all walks of life backgrounds together, so they can interact with children they would not normally interact with, in order for them to grow up and become diverse minded citizens."

It's an idea she is hoping clicks with the entire community. It's a program Brister says she has seen have huge success in other parts of the country.

if you would like to donate some Lego's, you can drop them off at circulation desk or children's department at the R. C. Miller Public Library at 1605 Dowlen Road in Beaumont.
