All clear given following Beaumont gas leak

Posted: Updated:

The all clear has been given following a gas leak Tuesday afternoon.

Police and fire crews asked people to avoid an area of Beaumont's west end while crews worked to stop a gas leak.  At least one nearby resident was evacuated and others were advised to shelter in place.

The call came in to emergency dispatch around 2:50 p.m. saying a construction crew struck a gas line in the 100 block of East Circuit Drive near the intersection with Calder Avenue.  A Beaumont Police spokesperson said the line is a 2 inch natural gas line.

A Beaumont Fire Rescue spokesperson said the wind helped to dissipate the leaking gas while repairs were made.

Beaumont Police had traffic blocked in the area near E Circuit and Clinton streets.

No injuries were reported.
