The city of Groves is hoping a new subdivision will bring in new residents and honor a Groves native.
The Patch development is a new 15-lot subdivisions that will be constructed between Joplin and Kenneth Avenue. The centerpiece of the subdivision will be a street named in honor of Beaumont police officer Bryan Hebert.
The new road will be named Bryan Hebert Lane.
"I was in total shock and excited. I was honored they would honor Bryan in such a way," says Cyndi Hebert, Bryan Hebert's mother.
The Groves man had been on the Beaumont police force for 10 years when he was killed July 2011 while on duty.
"Bryan should be remembered. He had only 36 years on our earth. But, Bryan made an impact on a lot of people. Bryan wasn't a person to boast or brag. I think he would be totally honored and probably a little embarrassed about having a street named after him," says Hebert.
Hebert's mother is a city of Groves employee.
Lots should be available for sale by late Spring or early summer.
