PESHAWAR, Pakistan (CNN) -- One member of Pakistani security was killed and five were wounded Monday in a blast in Pakistan's troubled tribal northern region, an official told CNN.

The casualties occurred when a car laden with explosives entered a fort in Bara Tehsil in the Khyber district, near the border with Afghanistan, and detonated, said Maj. Fazl-Ur Rehman, spokesman for the paramilitary force stationed in northern Pakistan.

The blast destroyed five rooms inside Fort Slope, a paramilitary forces camp in the district of Bara in one of the seven semi-autonomous tribal regions of northwest Pakistan, he said.

The incident occurred in Pakistan's volatile tribal region, where militants have a strong presence and paramilitary forces have frequently come under fire.
