SETX Tea Party members take part in "National Day of Resistance"

Posted: Updated:
BEAUMONT -

Shoppers at Gander Mountain in Beaumont showed their support for the Second Amendment on Saturday. Southeast Texas Tea Party activists gathered outside the sporting goods store asking people to sign a petition regarding gun rights.

It was part of what some are calling the "National Day of Resistance" - which has sparked similar rallies across the country. Southeast Texas Tea Party chairman Jeff Sadighi says the petitions will be sent to members of Congress to show that Texans are serious about keeping the Second Amendment the way it is.

"No one in D.C. seems to realize that the federal government doesn't have any jurisdiction over arms in Texas. I don't think we've had any negative comments at all, people are asking us  'Hey what can I do? What's going on?' so it's been very positive," Sadighi told 12News.

Sadighi says they were able to gather about 300 signatures in just a couple of hours. They also had 100 bumper stickers that read "One right that secures them all".

Sadighi says those ran out after an hour.
