Massive fire at old Tower Medical Center of Vidor

Posted: Updated:

Fire crews battled a blaze at the old Tower Medical Center in Vidor Friday night.  The fire was reported just after 7 p.m.

A firefighter on the scene told 12News the building, located across the street from Whataburger in the 500 block of North Main Street, was fully engulfed in flames when he arrived.

At least eight fire engines were needed as neighboring fire departments helped Vidor firefighters put out the fire out and prevent it from spreading to the First United Methodist Church next door.

Vidor Police Chief Dave Shows told 12News that four fire departments and an estimated 50 firefighter worked the blaze.  The McLewis, West Orange and Bridge City fire departments assisted Vidor firefighters.

Electricity and gas to the building were already shut off because the building was vacant.

Main Street had to be shut down while crews were working the fire.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

The building is considered a total loss.

No injuries were reported.
