Posted:

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has added Nicholas Vonwayne Prejean, 24, to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender list, and a $3,000 cash reward is now offered for information leading to his capture.

Prejean, a suspected Crips gang member, is identified as a "high risk" sex offender with a violent criminal past. He is wanted for felony failure to register as a sex offender and probation violation. All tips can be offered anonymously.

Prejean, who was born in Beaumont, has relatives living in the Houston area and has worked as an electrician assistant. His criminal history includes arrests for aggravated sexual assault of a child, assault causing bodily injury, drug possession and failure to comply with sex offender registration.

He was convicted in 2006 for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl and sentenced to two years in prison.

Prejean is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs approximately 172 pounds. He has numerous tattoos located on his back, chest, neck and both arms.

There are four different ways to provide anonymous tips:

  • Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
  • Text the letters DPS—followed by your tip—to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
  • Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture.
  • Submit a Facebook tip at http://www.facebook.com/texas10mostwanted by clicking the "SUBMIT A TIP" link (under the "About" section).

All calls, texts, e-mails and Facebook messages are anonymous.
