Fatal accident sparks TABC investigation

Posted: Updated:

A spokesperson for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission says investigators have launched a preliminary investigation to try to find out if a southeast Texas business served alcohol to a teen hours before she was killed in an accident.  The spokesperson did not identify the business to 12News.

A DPS trooper told 12News Sarah Comstock, 19, of Lumberton, was traveling northbound on Highway 69 around 4:30 a.m. Friday when she struck the center barrier north of Keith Road near Lumberton. She lost control and spun several times. A large truck the size of a dump truck hit her car causing it to spin again. She was taken to the hospital where she died Monday.

Trooper Tommy Chase told 12news there is an indication the 19-year old had been drinking alcohol prior to the accident.  An autopsy report is pending.

Comstock's sorority sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha Tuesday held a candlelight vigil for her. Comstock was a business major at Lamar University and held several positions in her sorority's program council.

Several other Greek organizations from fraternities and sororities of Lamar took part in the vigil.

Comstock is survived by her parents, two sisters and several other family members.
