Police positively identify body as missing woman

Posted: Updated:

Orange police have confirmed that the body found Friday in Newton County is that of missing Vinton woman Tami Higgonbotham.  That determination was made following an autopsy.

Higgonbotham was reported missing just over a week ago.  The Newton County Sheriff's Office is now leading the investigation.  Deputies Monday searched a wooded area for more clues.

Orange police this past weekend questioned 26-year-old Joshua Latham in connection with Higginbotham's death.

Latham is being held in a Tennessee jail on a probation violation. He is considered a person of interest at this time.

Family members say Higginbotham was meeting Latham about a cell phone exchange when she disappeared.

"About 1:02 she said 'hey sis, he wants me to go help him pick out a wedding ring.' And that was the last time I heard from her." Tami's sister Staci Robinson said.
