How to preserve your Valentine's Day flowers

Posted: Updated:

Valentine's Day flowers and bouquets always send a perfect message and now is the time to place your orders, but do you know how to make them last?

Local florist, James Perrio, says if you want to preserve those symbols of affection simply dry them out.

Bundle them together with a rubber band, or ribbon and hang them upside down in a dry area.

But Perrio says to do this no later than four days after you get the bouquet because if you don't they won't dry properly.

Perrio says a good place to dry your flowers is in the laundry room.

They will take about two weeks to completely dry then they can be saved or made into potpourri.

Perrio says a cool environment at about 68-degrees is good for making a bouquet last longer.

He also says it's important to change the water everyday so it doesn't sour.
