LAKE CHARLES -

A Louisiana State Trooper stopped a car just before 6 p.m. Thursday on Louisiana Highway 3509 in Calcasieu Parish after he says he saw the driver commit a traffic violation

The driver, Desireah Annette Chapman, 32, of Lake Charles, failed a standardized field sobriety test that was administered on site.  Chapman was placed under arrest.

Chapman, whose driver's license is currently suspended due to a previous DWI, was charged with DWI third offense, driving under suspension, and improper lane usage. She was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. If convicted, Chapman faces up to five and one-half years in prison and up to a $2,000 fine for driving under suspension and third offense DWI.

In late November 2012, Troopers assigned to Troop D arrested Chapman for DWI with child endangerment. Chapman had a 6-year-old child with her in the vehicle at the time of the arrest. Last month, Troopers arrested Chapman for DWI second offense.

In 2011, 50% of people who died in crashes investigated by Louisiana State Police Troop D were killed by impaired drivers (alcohol and/or drugs). To report impaired drivers, Troopers encourage motorists to dial *LSP (*577) from a cell phone or contact their local law enforcement agency.
