Security enforced at Mardi Gras

Posted: Updated:

Organizers and police officials are working hard to make sure the 21st annual Mardi Gras of Southeast Texas is a safe place for all to enjoy.

Dozens of officers will keep watch inside and outside of the gates.

They will also have metal detectors at all four entrances, which will help ensure safety.

Deputy chief Dennis Odom has been in charge of Mardi Gras security for the past eight years and says because they enforce strict security policies they haven't had much trouble over the years.

But he stresses keeping a close eye on your children at the festival because he says every year the police have to help a parent find a lost child.

Another piece of advice for parents is to remember what your child is wearing, a detailed description will help police find them faster.

Odom says to remind your children if they get lost, go to a police officer for help.
