Beaumont police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are looking for a man who robbed the Compass bank located near the intersection of 11th Street and Interstate 10.  The robbery happened just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A police spokesperson tells 12News a man walked into the bank, said that he had a gun, and demanded money.  The teller complied and gave him the cash.

The man dropped some of the money as he ran from the bank.  He was last seen heading east on the service road.   The dropped cash has been recovered.

"He did drop some money. We were able to recover some of that. We believe that would be good evidence to help us identify this man," says Sgt. Rob Flores with the Beaumont Police Department.

Officers used search dogs Wednesday morning as they searched around the bank property.

A police spokesperson describes the robber as a black male around 5'8".  He was wearing a blue jacket and gray sweat pants.

The spokesperson also said it is too early to know if this robbery is connected to any of the previous bank robberies in the area.

There were several employees and at least one customer inside the bank at the time of the robbery.  None of them were physically injured.

Police ask that any person who may know the identity of this robber, or his whereabouts, to call Beaumont Crime Stoppers at 409-832-TIPS (8477.)  If your information leads to his arrest you will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
