Woman recounts night her neighbors' house caught fire

When Idafaye Burch woke up Monday night and went outside, she saw her next-door neighbor's house ablaze.

"I don't know how it could have happened so quickly but it was completely engulfed," Burch said.

Firefighters responded to the fire on Rhode Island Street in the Cove area of Orange shortly after 11 p.m. Monday. Burch lives just feet from the house that caught fire, and she had just gone to bed when something woke her up.

"There was a bang...  and there was a sudden flash of light, and I didn't understand what it was because I knew it wasn't lightning," she said.
Burch says firefighters were already on scene when she got outside, and says they stayed out there past 3am. Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, but say no one was home when it happened, and no one was injured. The American Red Cross is assisting the four people Burch says were renting the home. She describes them as two couples in their 30's or 40's.
As far as her home is concerned, Burch says she was never worried about it catching fire... saying her peace of mind was all thanks to the Orange Fire Department.

"They did an excellent job... I was thinking 'I hope I never have to call them' but I feel very good about the service they give and how quickly they get out here," she said.

Officials with the Orange Fire Department say whatever the cause of the fire may be, it is not considered suspicious at this time.
