The Orange County Sheriff's Office is warning that burglars have hit a number of homes recently while families are away at work and school.
Sergeant Chad Hogan tells 12News that at least seven homes all around the county have been burglarized in the past week.
Hogan says the thieves have been hitting neighborhoods in Orangefield, Bridge City and Mauriceville where homes are spread apart.
Hogan says crooks check to see if anyone is home, then kick in doors to get inside.
"They seem to have the same type of M.O., same form of entry. Doors kicked in, no one home. The burglars seem to be taking small items," Sergeant Hogan said.
The items stolen have included TV's, iPads, iPods, electronics, jewelry and cash.
Sergeant Hogan advises residents to buy an alarm system and to call authorities if any suspicious vehicles are spotted in your neighborhood.
The Sheriff's Office is working to figure out if the burglaries are related to a rash of burglaries in Hardin County and Calcasieu Parish in Louisiana.
