Beaumont hot spot, Chula Vista, has shut down after 25 years in business.
The restaurant, in the 1100 block of North 11th Street, now has a sign on its door saying the restaurant is closed for good. While a lot of longtime Chula Vista customers are unhappy to hear the news of the restaurant closing, the city says it is planning to boost the economy in that area.
Councilman Alan Coleman tells 12News that it's unfortunate to see a business shut down and that hopefully a new business will soon take over at that same location.
"It's sad to see restaurants go. Sometimes things just don't work out," he says.
Coleman says there have been at least six new businesses that have opened recently; including a gas station and a Mattress Joe.
11th Street is a highly traveled road off Interstate 10. Coleman says it's key to keep business booming.
"11th Street has had some problems and safety issues in the past. With new businesses going up and extra police patrols in the area, things are getting better and there's better safety. It's going to be a nice street", says Coleman.
Jim West travels to Beaumont from Crystal Beach two or three times a month.
"It's actually less expensive in Beaumont than it is on the beach. So, it's worth the drive," says West.
Also in the works for 11th Street is plans for the old Holiday Inn. Four years ago, the Holiday Inn shut down. Coleman says there are new owners of the building and renovation plans are underway. It is not known at this time what business will open there.
