Man indicted in Orange bank robbery case

Posted:

A Federal Grand Jury has indicted a man in connection with an Orange bank robbery.

On December 19, 2012, a man robbed the Chase Bank located at 3109 16th St. in Orange.  Just before the robbery, an alert citizen at a nearby business saw a man acting suspicious and wrote down the license number of the man's truck.  When he found out the bank had been robbed, he called the police with the information.

Based upon this tip, detectives with the Orange Police Department, along with the FBI, were able to identify the robber as Samuel David Sanford III, 35, of Bacliff, Texas.  Sanford was already wanted out of Galveston County for robbery.

The next day Sanford was arrested in Shreveport, LA on drug charges where he remains in jail.

On January 23rd, Sanford was indicted by the Federal Grand Jury of the Eastern District of Texas for Bank Robbery. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
