Funeral held for Nederland Man killed in terrorist attack

A Burial Mass was held Tuesday for Nederland native Victor Lovelady.  The 57-year-old engineer is one of three Americans killed during a four-day siege at a natural gas plant in Algeria

Lovelady went to Algeria in November before coming home to Southeast Texas for the holidays. He went back to Algeria on January 7th, just over a week before the terrorist attack.

His funeral was held at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

"He was exact opposite of people who took his life. He was a good man. Two simple words. He was a good man to everyone he met," said Father Dan Malain at Tuesday's service.

Fr. Malain referred to the loss of Mr. Lovelady as a loss inflicted by hatred and evil.

"We are reminded it's a sad reality in the world in which we live," said Fr. Malain.

Bishop Curtis Guillory also spoke before the hundreds in attendance; saying a precious gift has been taken from the family by an evil act of terrorism. Bishop Guillory says love conquers all evil.

"The majority of the people in the world want the right thing. They want to do the right thing. But, evil is part of humanity," said Bishop guillory.

Lovelady's casket was sprinkled with Baptismal water as a reminder of Lovelady's baptism. A pall was then placed over his casket.

Lovelady is survived by his wife, Maureen Lovelady of Nederland; daughter Erin Lovelady of Nederland; son Grant Lovelady of Nederland; and brother Mike Lovelady and wife Wand and their children Kevin, Jason and Ashley, of Nederland.

There will be a private graveside service at a later date.
