Church community praying for Nederland native

Posted: Updated:

Questions remain about the fate of a Nederland native who was taken hostage in Algeria last week.

The members of Saint Charles Catholic Church say he has their prayers.

Father Dan Malain and Church members tell 12 News it was short but members were asked to pray for the Nederland man who's status is still unknown.

Many members have no idea who the 57-year-old is but say they will continue praying for his safe return to Texas.

12 News is withholding the mans name for safety reasons. All those at St. Charles who know his identity are also not sharing his name.

Father Malain says his parishioners don't need to know the mans name to keep him and his family in their prayers.

"As long as God knows, and what doesn't God know? Scripture says not a hair falls from your head but God doesn't know it," Father Malain said.

12 News visited the man's brother's home Sunday to see if they had heard anything new about their relative but there was no answer at the door.
