Local beauty queen featured on Toddlers & Tiaras

Posted: Updated:

A Bridge City beauty queen who appeared on Toddlers & Tiaras four years ago made a return to the TLC reality show Wednesday night.

Toddlers & Tiaras follows families on their sometimes-controversial quest for sparkly crowns, big titles, and lots of cash but not every child is the next Honey Boo Boo.

"There is a side of a sweet little girl has manners and isn't a brat that doesn't show her butt on TV," said pageant mom April Cutchins.

Growing up Cutchins loved competing in pageants so when her daughter was just a year old daisy took her first steps towards being a beauty queen.

With more than 80 crowns and over 100 competitions later Daisy is hooked.

"One of my pageants I won $5,000, those two big crowns, those trophies over there, I won a lot of stuff that's in this room," said Daisy.

"Daisy will never win more than what we've put into it, ever," Cutchins.

The glitz and glam can add up quick and Cutchins admits she doesn't even know how much she's spent on pageants over the past nine years.

Especially when this dress alone cost the family a whopping $3,000.

"But we put it in perspective it's a hobby and it's fun. And as with any hobby you're going to spend money," said Cutchins.

I wanted to see if this was a hobby that I could pick up and if I had what it takes to be a beauty queen.

After trying it out it's not as easy as it might look. I better leave it to the professional.

"If you want to be in a pageant you should go on and be in it who cares if you win or lose it's just the pageant it's just about having fun," said Daisy.

"I'm proud of the little girl that she's turned out to be and pageants have been a big part of that," said Cutchins.

Cutchins has a savings account set up for all of daisy's cash prizes so the beauty queen can pay for a new car or college tuition in the future.

And she estimates her daughter has saved up about 15 thousand dollars so far.
