Cell phone search results in accident, Vidor police say

Posted: Updated:

Police on the scene of an accident in Vidor Friday afternoon say it was caused by a driver searching for a cell phone.

The accident happened just before 2 p.m. in the 1100 block of Highway 12. Officers say a man driving a silver pickup was side-swiped by red pickup that was heading the same direction. The woman driving the other vehicle had reached down to get her phone and her truck crossed slightly into the other lane, striking the silver pickup.

The driver of the silver truck was taken to the hospital with what officers describe as minor injuries.

The woman who police say caused the accident was issued a citation for failure to maintain a proper lane.
