Beaumont firefighters work multiple fires, two ruled arson

Posted: Updated:

A statement issued by the Beaumont Fire Department says firefighters worked multiple fires Sunday night and at least two of them have been determined to be arson.

Just before 7 p.m. Sunday, Beaumont Fire Rescue units were called to 660 Chamberlain Dr. for the report of a structure fire. The people who live at the house said there was a small fire around the fireplace that they tried to put out.  A short time later, they realized the attic was on fire. They were able to escape without injury. There was heavy fire damage to the attic of the house with water damage to the interior. The fire actually originated in the wall above the firebox of the fire place and then spread to the attic. Red Cross was called to assist the family.

At 8:28 p.m., while firefighters were still on the Chamberlain Dr. scene, a car fire was reported at 6750 Prutzman Rd. Other fire units responded to Prutzman and when firefighters arrived at Prutzman they found both a car fire and a separate structure fire. The car fire was determined to be a deliberate fire.

Nearby in the apartment complex, a piece of equipment was also found to be on fire next to one of the buildings. The equipment fire caused minor damage to one of the apartment buildings. The equipment fire was also determined to be deliberate.

These two deliberate fire are under investigation at this point.
