Beaumont burger joint takes extra measures in flu season

Posted: Updated:

It's the heart of flu season, and Colburn McClelland, the owner of Willy Burger in Beaumont isn't taking any chances.

"We have an enormous obligation because we're serving the general public... not only with our food but as far as germs and viruses go as well," McClelland said.

So the tables are kept spotless, and bleach used in most hospitals that kills flu-causing viruses is used to clean the floors and drains.

Willy Burger also has hand sanitizing dispensers throughout the restaurant for anyone who wants to wipe away those pesky germs. But what really sets this place apart, is the company pays for each employees flu shots.

"Doing that shows our employees that we care about them, and it's just that extra step to ensure I have a safe kitchen," said McClelland.

Sometimes it's an extra step that can make all the difference, and possibly save lives, as 20 children have already died from the flu so far this season.
