Fire in Silsbee called suspicious

Posted: Updated:

The Silsbee Volunteer Fire Department worked a structure fire at the corner of Fresenius Road at Henry Road just northwest of Silsbee Thursday morning.

The fire was reported just before 10 a.m.

The initial call to dispatch said the structure was fully engulfed in flames.  Firefighters in Kountze and Lumberton were put on standby briefly while Silsbee firefighters worked to get the fire under control.

Firefighters say the structure was an abandoned night club formally known as "The Oak Grove Cafe."  The club had been closed for around 10 years.  Investigators say the fire appears suspicious because there were no utilities hooked up to the building.

An official cause of the fire has not yet been released.
