BEAUMONT, TEXAS -- Beaumont police have released the name of a man killed in an auto-pedestrian accident Thursday morning.  Beaumont Police Sgt. Rob Flores tells 12 News that the victim's name is Mitchell Glenn Downs, 23, of Lumberton.

Just before 7 a.m. police dispatchers received several calls about a man laying along the side of Eaxtex Freeway.  When officers arrived they found Down's body near the intersection of Eastex Freeway and Park North Drive.  Officers say his body was in the grassy area between the feeder road and the Freeway,

Downs was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 Place 2 Judge Nancy Beaulieu.

The body has been taken to the Jefferson County morgue for an autopsy.

Officers said they have not yet found any direct witnesses, but did talk to several people who called police after they came upon the body.

As officers questioned business owners in the area, investigators learned that some of the businesses had security cameras that caught images of a suspect vehicle.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about a dark-colored pickup truck that has recent front-end damage to call Beaumont Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS (8477.)
