Friends, family remember victims of crime with the Angel Tree

Posted: Updated:

More than 100 people gathered Tuesday night to trim the "Tree of Angels."

The Jefferson County Coalition for Victims of Crime hosted its 12th Annual Tree of Angels ceremony at the Jefferson County Courthouse. Angel ornaments were purchased or hand made and each ornament has a name tag to honor who it represents.

Angel ornaments are in remembrance of a loved one killed by a violent crime, or hung to represent any crime such as assault, murder, rape, family violence, child abuse or alcohol related crimes.

Father of a victim of crime, Alfred Allen tells 12 News, "Everyone is hurting because of a loved one that they have lost through victim of a crime, or from drinking and driving so this is important."

The Jefferson County Coalition for Victims of Crime provides victims and offenders with treatment, counseling, support and education.
