Jasper trucker killed in Tyler County wreck

The driver of a tanker truck is dead after an accident on Highway 69 in south Tyler County.

DPS officials say the driver was headed north and lost control at about 5:30 Friday morning. The truck flipped and caught fire.

The contents of the tank caught on fire, and resulted in authorities closing down the highway in both directions. Both lanes have since reopened.

The driver has been identified as 58-year-old Burtis Woods of Jasper.

The truck is owned by Bill Dover Exxon out of Jasper. It was carrying diesel gas.

The fire also spread to a neighboring home and caused extensive damage there.

We are still learning details and will provide updates as they become available.
