Plea deal prompts man to admit guilt to killing estranged girlfriend

The man accused in the shooting death of his estranged girlfriend as she arrived at her Nederland daycare workplace in May 2012 has agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors.
Travis Wade Smith, 38, is charged in the murder of 35-year-old Holly Crenshaw who had been shot in the head.
     Smith surrendered to authorities.
The defendant told his lawyer to accept a 40-year sentence in exchange for a guilty plea. It means Smith would not be eligible for parole for at least 20 years in prison.
Sentencing is set for Wednesday before Judge John Stevens.
