Woman's life inspires family, friends

Family and friends celebrated the life of Geraldene Bates of Orange Tuesday.

A visitation was held for the 74-year-old woman who died Sunday, almost a month after a serious car crash in Bridge City on FM 1442.

The accident happened on October 23. Authorities say a pickup crossed the center line, hitting Bates vehicle. Family members say Bates then caught pneumonia in the hospital.

Family allowed our camera inside Bates' visitation.

Her daughter says Bates loved to dance, go to church, volunteer and be with friends.

"You do your kids a wonderful service living a beautiful loving life, that's what she did. We never realized that until now," Delisa Bates said of her mother.

Bates is survived by her three children and former husband.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at Community Church in Orange.
